Guzla Stanislaw, born in Poland 2.17.1918 in Trzesni, was arrested by German Gestapo 4.2.1942 for being a Polish Resistence member. He was therefore put in Tarnów prison soon after, also in Poland. On 1.3.1942, after suffering several torture, he was deported to KL Auschwitz and imprisoned as a political prisoner with the number 79572. In mid-april 1943, he was transferred to KL Neuengame, located in Hamburg, where he was given the prisoner number 18361. Before Hamburg was liberated by the Allies, he was transferred to a subcamp of KL Sachsenhausen, in the vicinity of Wasserburg, being liberated on 5.2.1945 by U.S troops. Then, he served as a guard in Sachsenhausen, that soon later was converted into a german POW's Lager, working for the Allies in surveillance duties with german POWs. After the war, he became a master in carpentry, had 4 children and enjoyed his freedom as a bee-keeper.
Content: this lot is one of the greatest inmate lots we have ever had for sale. The jacket and the trousers are the typical Auschwitz pattern. Thick winter type fabric with grayish and blue stripes. This uniform, which consists of the jacket and the pants used by the inmate in Auschwitz, Neuengamme and Sachenhausen, was preserved after the liberation and kept by him and later by his sons and grandsons. It's well worn of course (photos do the talking). This is one of the uniforms used by the inmate during his captivity (inmates changed their uniforms many times during their captivity). But the best part isn't only the preservation of the garments apart from some minor tears or little holes, but also that it's fully researched. This prisoner's information was got from the Auschwitz museum, in Poland. We applied for the information available, and we were issued an official document where all his information is perfectly listed (in Polish), corroborating the existence of Mr. Guzla Stanislaw and allowing us to know all the camps he was taken to since 1942 until his freedom in 1945. This document is signed by the director of Auschwitz museum himself, Dr. Piotr Cywinski among other experts from the museum. The uniform was also taken to the museum, where after examination was given the thumbs up, so not only the fact that it was got directly from relatives, but also the fact that it was considered original by some well reputed experts in the museum, make this lot a real highlight for any collector. It also comes with a reproduction of the original mugshot from the Auschwitz archives, and an original ID size photo of the inmate (period photo) wearing a U.S. army uniform and Polish insignia, taken during his duties as POW camp guard after the liberation. Another excellent document that comes with the uniform is the original diploma or Legitymacja (polish award card), which was the Polish document given to all the Polish inmates who were imprisoned in any Polish Konzentrationslager during the WW2, and that document was given along with a really nice cross, the so-called "Auschwitz Cross". That cross was given to all the survivors of nazi Konzentrationsläger in Poland. At last, a period newspaper clipping related to the inmate completes this great lot.
It's really difficult to find such a lot with the original uniform worn by the inmate, along with original picture, award and document issued to him, and fully researched! These kind of sets are really scarce and most of them are in museums or kept by relatives. A 100% original lot coming from one of the saddest periods of humankind's history, thus a dumb witness of the horrible Konzentrationslager system.
IMPORTANT: With this lot, we will issue FOR FREE a set of COA's (Certificate of Authenticity) of all the items that this great lot includes!
