Letter from Serbian Jewish officer soldier from Oflag VI C officers camp in Osnabrücker sent to Serbia 1942 . Very nice Judenpost.  Was an officer's camp in the Osnabrück district of Atter in the southwest of Lower Saxony, Germany.

It is unusual that here 400 Jewish men were able to maintain a Jewish community life until 1944 !

Oflag VI C was a POW camp - a former Wehrmacht barracks in Osnabrück - which held French and later Serbian officers. Reportedly over 400 Yugoslav Army officers (Serbian Jews) were allowed freedom to practice the Jewish religion without repression right through the war years. The camp was bombed on 6 Dec 1944 during an Allied raid on Osnabrück and a number of prisoners killed.

Post-war the Yugoslav government tried the former Commandant and his Intelligence Officers in Belgrade between 28 Oct - 5 Nov 1946 and executed them on 20 Dec 1946.
