Original wool blanket used by liberated prisoners from KL Dachau concentration camps given by Canadian Red Cross to warm them up. This blanket was originally used by the prisoner that appears in the right of the photo. It was got directly from relatives along with this photo shown. Blanket is almost complete with small pieces lost and it has some rips and dirt due to use and years kept. We can see one of the prisoners using a blanket like this wrapped up with a blanket exactly like this. Usually we see prisoner uniforms, such items have not been preserved in large part.
Hardly anyone knows how big the role of Red Cross was in serving the liberated camps !!!
The blanket has a small label sewn to it that reads "Gift of Canadian Red Cross Society". It was very common that Red Cross organizations from all over the world helped the liberated prisoners from concentration camps giving them not only first aid and food but also clean and warm clothes and blankets like this. We really get the original blanket for the first time. Usually, it was easier to keep the prisoner's uniform than the old blanket from the camp. Size 130 cm x 214 cm
IMPORTANT!!! Although photo original came with this blanket, photo IS NOT FOR SALE! We can give you copy of this photo.
