During World War II he was active in the resistance movement. In 1943 he was imprisoned in Pawiak. From April 1943 to January 1945 he was a prisoner in the Auschwitz camp (camp no. 119464), then (until May 1945) a prisoner in the Mauthausen-Gusen camp (prisoner no. 117307), from where he was liberated by the American army on May 5, 1945. He then stayed briefly in Ebensee, where he worked as an accountant.

From July 1945 to August 1946, he worked at the Pomeranian Fishing Company in Bydgoszcz, where he dealt with the housing and social issues of fishermen coming to the Western Territories. From August 1946 to 1949, he worked at the Main Board of the Maritime League in Warsaw, where he served as the Chief Inspector of Maritime Education. From 1947, for several years he was also the captain of the Maritime League yacht "Generał Zaruski". From 1949 to 1950, he was the chief inspector of maritime training at the POSP Main Headquarters. From 1950 to 1955 he was engaged in literary work. From 1955 to 1958 he was the head of the department and deputy editor-in-chief of Radio "Kraj". From 1958, he worked at the Polish Radio (for managing the editorial office of the foreign program "For Those Who at Sea" he was awarded the Golden Microphone), and then at the Polish Television, where he was (among other things) the head of the reportage department of the Editor-in-Chief of the Broadcast for Poles Abroad.

From the age of ten he was an avid hunter. He was the author of a TV program for young people called "Zwierzyniec", which was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. As a host, dressed as a forester, he talked about life and secrets of the forest, popularizing nature issues. He also conducted meetings in schools on this topic. In those years, everyone knew him as a nice grandfather who talked passionately about animals.
